Two Friends Reunite After 52 Years

Updated: Dec 16, 2021

For Immediate Release: 10/6/2021

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. – After losing touch for 52 years, Jane Kirkpatrick and Jane White found their lifelong friend living in the same building, The Stafford in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

The two were sorority sisters at the University of Oregon from 1960 to 1964, in each other’s weddings, and were close friends for years.

Kirkpatrick moved to The Stafford in 2017, followed by White in 2018. The lifelong friends lived just one floor apart and didn’t even realize it … until September 2021.

White was reading a resident newsletter when she spotted “Jane Kirkpatrick” in a list of September birthdays. She asked the concierge if they could tell her more about her, and she immediately recognized her friend when she saw her photo.

She went to Kirkpatrick’s apartment, just a floor below hers, and knocked on the door. When Kirkpatrick answered, she didn’t recognize her at first.

White said, “Trucker, I’m the other Jane.”

As soon as she said “Trucker,” Kirkpatrick immediately recognized her lifelong friend, as that was her nickname in college.

The two friends were ecstatic to reunite once again. They sat on the couch talking about everything – life, family, what they’ve been up to, and fond memories.

“It’s really an amazing joining of old friends,” Kirkpatrick stated.

“I have been smiling for two and a half weeks,” White shared.

Kirkpatrick and White love their home at The Stafford.

“We really hit the gold when we got here,” White shared. “Our apartment is everything that we need.”

White noted several things she loves at The Stafford, including food, exercise classes, underground parking, the small building size, and the adorable town of Lake Oswego.

Kirkpatrick appreciates the artistic community as an artist herself.

The two friends enjoy regular dinners together and look forward to planning field trips.

“We’ve only just begun,” White shared.
