Senior Living Resident Celebrates 102nd Birthday

SOUTH OGDEN, Utah – Avamere at Mountain Ridge, a senior living community in South Ogden, Utah recognizes Derral Allen on his 102nd birthday on Thursday, March 4, 2021. The community will host a celebration while adhering to local safety protocols and guidelines.
Allen, a veteran and long-time resident of Avamere at Mountain Ridge, is a very active resident in the community. His favorite drink is coffee and contributes this beverage in part to his longevity. Like clockwork, he visits the lobby at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. every day on the button. Fellow residents and staff always know what time it is when they see him!
Allen is known for his great singing voice, and he can often be heard singing by his apartment window. He always has a positive attitude and smile on his face, and he feels this has also contributed to his longevity.
Allen was born in Hyrum, Utah and enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1940. After other positions in the military, he ultimately was a major in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, retiring after 20 years of service. Allen was married for over 60 years to his sweetheart, Helen, who passed away six years ago. He has three children, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
