Sarah Silva Earns OHCA Special Service Award

Sarah Silva, President of Areté Living, earned the 2025 Special Service Award from the Oregon Health Care Association (OHCA) for her pivotal support of OHCA and advocacy during key legislation affecting seniors.

Sarah’s advocacy

Sarah played a pivotal role in OHCA’s advocacy during this year’s legislative session by meeting with lawmakers and visiting the capitol. Her impactful efforts strengthened the work of OHCA’s government relations team, helping the industry achieve critical objectives.

“I’m honored to receive this award alongside such respected leaders in the healthcare industry,” Sarah stated. “I value the Oregon Health Care Association and its vital role in advocating for our profession. It is a privilege to represent seniors across the United States, and I remain committed to ensuring they receive the quality care they deserve.”

She earns this award along with fellow advocates: Ali Dean of New Horizons In-Home Care Solutions, Lisa Hilty of Sapphire Health Services, and Ole Lindbo of The Springs Living. Maggie Hilty Katz of Avamere is earning the Special Service Award for her contributions to OHCA.

Contributions to healthcare

This award is the latest in Sarah’s impressive career achievements. In 2023, she received the NCAL Jan Thayer Pioneer Award, recognizing her as a champion for quality improvement, professional development, and diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives.

Sarah serves the senior living profession at the national and state level. She is Vice-Chair of the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) Board of Directors and is currently running for Chair. She has also served as a Board Member of the Alzheimer’s Association, Oregon State Leader with NCAL, Chair of the OHCA Assisted Living Council, and more.

Sarah’s dedication to seniors spans her entire career, beginning as a caregiver at Avamere at Hillsboro, one of Areté Living’s communities. She held numerous roles through her career, advancing to regional director of operations before assuming her role as President in 2019.
